Description 1914 Star – 1st battalion Gordon Highlanders – Prisoner of War Le Cateau, 26th August 1914. 1914 Star, 530 Pte J. Petrie, 1/ Gord. Highrs. Joseph Petrie is confirmed on his MIC as landing on the 13th August 1914, serving in the 1st battalion Gordon Highlanders, and that he was a prisoner of war. He enlisted on the 5th September 1910 and was after training posted to the 1st battalion . on the 4th August 1914 the battalion formed part of the 8th brigade, 3rd division and landed at Bologna on the 13th August They took part on the battle at Mons (23rd August) the retreat from Mons and the battle at Le Cateau (26th August) where he and a large amount of the battalion were taken prisoner of war. He was discharged to the reserves on the 18th March 1919. He lived at Portsoy, Banffshire.
