Description 1914-15 trio and plaque – Kings Shropshire Light Infantry, KIA 26th September 1917. 1914-15 Star, 15757 Pte J. Holmes. Shrops. L.I.; British War and Victory Medals, 15757 Pte J. Holmes. K.S.L.I.; Memorial Plaque, John Holmes (Note two holes drilled in plaque for mounting) John Holmes was from Dawley, Shropshire and was born on the 7th August 1891. His MIC shows he landed in France on the 24th September 1915 serving in the 6th Battalion Kings Shropshire Light Infantry and later the 8th Battalion. He was Killed in Action on the 26th September 1917, when serving in the 7th Battalion at Polygon Wood, 3rd Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele offensive) in which 7 KSLI was seriously involved He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
