Description Arras 3rd May 1917 casualty – 5th Battalion Kings Shropshire Light Infantry. British War and Victory medals, 17543 Pte G. Evans . K.S.L.I. George Evans landed in France on the 7th July 1915, and his MIC confirms he is entitled to a 1914-15 trio. He was serving in the 5th Battalion K.S.L.I. when he was Killed in Action on the 3rd May 1917 and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial. The battalion was ordered to capture the German “Ape” Trench on the day he was killed. which they were ordered to hold at all costs, until relieved by the Somerset L.I. on the night of the 4th. He was the son of Thomas Evans of Old Edge Lane, Royton, Oldham Condition – VF
